Describe your group as a group. This is where teamwork begins.
The image and perception each of us holds about our business, whether we're employees, or owners, (or customers for that matter) begins with the way that we go about describing ourselves.
If we want to be a group that exemplifies teamwork, then the GroupSync program says that we have to START by participating together to create the initial descriptions (systems) that define who we are.
Bring the group-as-a-group perspective to each meeting. Start with what the group currently is, add to the discussion group objective data and group subjective data, mix well, hell yell, work it out, and arrive at a new description of who we are, together.
This gets people participating FROM THE BEGINNING, and keeps them current on all of the CHANGES that the business goes through as it GROWS.
A further benefit of writing things down is that it creates and organization around the information just by getting it on paper. This simple first step also has a nice side-affect...it separates the facts from emotions.
Once it’s written and before the group, it becomes possible to create strategy to be the most constructive. It’s easy to see the functions and activities that make up the business and to discover new ways to put them together so they work better.\
Organize the PROCESS FOR CHANGE that the group is going to use. How ideas will be collected, discussed, acted upon.
The GroupSync program suggests that the owners/managers of the business create a way that the employees become responsible for knowing what the systems are. Further, the PROCESS FOR CHANGE should not be catch the boss in a good mood, but should be a group process that everyone understands and in which the owners/managers participate as a team member just like everyone else.
